We[as in us, the world] have a problem, a sick problem. It's called shark finning, it's banned in 17 countries, but not all. It's where people catch sharks; usually from long lining, and they cut off their fins, throwing the shark back into the water. Usually while it's still alive. Without it's fins, sharks cannot survive, they sink to the bottom of ocean and are eaten alive by other fish. Sharks, portrayed as dangerous and fearsome animals however, are not as they appear. Sharks kill 10 people per year and it's usually because of blood loss from a bite. [[Sharks test the ability to eat their food by biting first, if it's part of their normal food, they eat it. If not, they swim away]] More people die from accidents and other things. It's estimated that 100 million sharks are killed just for their fins annually. Shark meat is considered low value, so they are not worth transporting their bulky bodies back to land, instead they are thrown back into the ocean when they are de-finned.

Even the whale shark, a gentle fish that only eats plankton, are being killed for their fins. Same goes on with whales. If we can't fix this problem now, our marine ecosystem and food chain could be ruined. Sharks keep animals in line, such as the sea lion. If sharks are gone, sea lions could over populate and eat too much fish, thus beginning the disruption of the food chain. This will effect us if it's not stopped.
